Athletic Trainer Practice Board

Board Purpose: In the interest of public health, safety, and welfare and to protect the public from the unprofessional, improper, incompetent and unlawful practice of athletic training, it is necessary to provide laws and regulations to govern the granting of the privilege to practice as an athletic trainer. The primary responsibility and obligation of the athletic trainer practice board is to protect the public.

 

The Athletic Trainer Practice Board currently has an opening on the Board for one public member.  This member shall represent the public and have no financial interest, direct or indirect, in the occupation regulated. In addition, this member shall be from any area north of Interstate 40 in the state.

Board of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

Board Purpose: In the interest of the public health, safety, and welfare and to protect the public from the unprofessional, improper, incompetent, and unlawful practice of acupuncture and oriental medicine, it is necessary to provide laws and regulations to govern the practice of acupuncture and oriental medicine. The primary responsibility and obligation of the board of acupuncture and oriental medicine is to protect the public.

 

The Board of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine currently has openings on the Board for two public members.  These members shall be appointed to represent the public and shall not have practiced acupuncture and oriental medicine in this or any other jurisdiction or have any financial interest in the profession regulated. No board member shall be the owner, principal or director of an institute offering educational programs in acupuncture and oriental medicine. No more than one board member may be from each of the following categories:

  • a faculty member at an institute offering educational programs in acupuncture and oriental medicine;
  • a tutor in acupuncture and oriental medicine; or
  • an officer or director in a professional association of acupuncture and oriental medicine.

Board of Optometry

The Board of Optometry currently has an opening on the Board for one public member.  This member of the board shall not have been licensed as an optometrist, nor shall the public member have any significant financial interest, whether direct or indirect, in the occupation regulated.

Physical Therapy Board

Board Purpose: To protect the public health, safety and welfare and provide for control, supervision, licensure, and regulation of the practice of physical therapy. To carry out those purposes, only individuals who meet and maintain minimum standards of competence and conduct may engage in the practice of physical therapy. The practice of physical therapy is declared to affect the public interest and that act shall be liberally construed so as to accomplish the purpose stated in that act.

 

The Physical Therapy Board currently has an opening for one public member.  This member of the board shall be a citizen appointed from the public at large who is not associated with, or financially interested in, any healthcare profession.

Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices Board

The Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices Board has an opening for one professional member.  This member shall be a licensed otolaryngologist who has been a New Mexico resident for at least five years prior to their appointment.

Board of Psychologist Examiners

The New Mexico State Board of Psychologist Examiners has an opening for one public member.  This member shall be a layman and have no significant financial interest, direct or indirect, in the practice of psychology.

Counseling and Therapy Practice Board

Board Purpose: In the interest of public health, safety, and welfare and to protect the public from unprofessional, improper, incompetent, and unlawful counseling and therapy practice, it is necessary to provide laws and regulations to govern the practice of counseling and therapy. The primary responsibility and obligation of the counseling and therapy practice board is to protect the public.

 

The Counseling and Therapy Practice Board has an opening for one public member.  This public member shall not have been licensed or have practiced as a counselor or therapist practitioner or in any other regulated mental health profession, nor have any significant financial interest, either direct or indirect, in the professions regulated.

Massage Therapy Practice Board

Board Purpose: In the interest of public health, safety, and welfare and to protect the public from unlawful, improper, and incompetent practice of massage therapy, it is necessary to regulate that practice.

 

The Massage Therapy Board has an opening for one public member.  This public member shall be a New Mexico residence and not have been licensed and have no financial interest, direct or indirect, in the profession of massage therapy.

Advisory Board of Respiratory Care Practitioners

Board Purpose: The Advisory Board of Respiratory Care Practitioners consists of five members whose purpose is to protect the public from the unprofessional, improper, incompetent, and unlawful practice of respiratory care and to provide laws and rules to govern the practice of respiratory care.  The Advisory Board’s primary purpose is to safeguard life and health and to promote the public welfare by licensing and regulating the practice of respiratory care in the state.

The Advisory Board of Respiratory Care Practitioners has openings for the following positions:

  1. One physician licensed in New Mexico who is knowledgeable in respiratory care;
  2.  Two respiratory care practitioners who are residents of New Mexico, licensed by the department and in good standing. At least one of the respiratory care practitioners shall have been actively engaged in the practice of respiratory care for at least five years immediately preceding appointment or reappointment
  3. One public member who is a resident of New Mexico. A public member shall not have been licensed as a respiratory care practitioner nor shall he have any financial interest, direct or indirect, in the occupation to be regulated.

The Superintendent of the Regulation and Licensing Department seeks to appoint the above listed members to the Advisory Board.  Interested persons should apply by submitting their letter of interest and resume to Melissa D.
