The Boards and Commissions Division licenses and regulates 29 different professions and specialized trades, from accountants to funeral directors. This division establishes specialized standards on education and training to ensure New Mexicans receive quality care and services from qualified professionals.
Each board and commission has its own set of rules and its own licensing requirements. The Governor of New Mexico appoints members to boards and commissions who work closely with the Superintendent of the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department to protect consumer rights while promoting good business practices and economic growth.
State Boards and Commissions that issue occupational or professional licenses offer expedited licensure and waiver of initial licensing fees to military service members, their spouses and dependent children, and veterans. Eligibility also requires that the applicant hold a current license in good standing from another jurisdiction that meets New Mexico’s minimal licensing requirements for the same license, and successful completion of any required background check.

The New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department and State of New Mexico have implemented a new automated licensing system called NM-PLUS. This investment simplifies the licensing process, making it easier for applicants and licensees to apply for and renew licenses in New Mexico, eliminating paper forms, money orders, and reduces staff time required to process, review, approve, and renew licensees.
To apply for or renew a license, you MUST submit your application online using NM-PLUS. Paper applications for initial licensure and renewals will no longer be accepted.
